We’ve added three new live weather options to the app that can be applied to the flights screen. METARs (Meteorological Aerodrome Reports), NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) and TAFs (Terminal Aerodrome Forecast). You can read more about these weather overlays here: https://support.spidertracks.com/knowledge/weather-overlays
We’ve also added the ability to manage aircraft AFF feeds from the app. To access this feature click More and select the Manage AFF Feed menu option.
We’ve added a new lightning weather overlay that shows the density of lightning in an area, with cooler colors (blue, cyan, green) indicating less lightning, and warmer colors (yellow, orange, red) indicating areas with more lightning. This weather overlay provides a quick visual for severe weather tracking. We’ve also updated the USA Radar weather overlay, it now covers the continental US, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the southern portion of Canada.
We made sending/receiving Spidertxt more reliable.
We’ve added live weather overlays to the flights page. Click the cloud icon in the map controls menu and select from the following options: Radar products (Australia, Canada, USA and Global), Global IR Satellite, Global Winds Aloft (1000ft, 5000ft, 10000ft).
We’ve also added VFR and IFR map layers to the app.
You can now choose to show track lines on the flights page, allowing you to see where your aircraft have flown from. This setting is accessible by clicking More and then Settings.
We’ve introduced track point clustering to the app. When you zoom out on a map screen the app will group similar track points together and display the collection as a single point resulting in cleaner track display at higher zoom levels. You can still see tracks in full detail by zooming in on the map.
We have updated the behaviour of the flying page so that when a user is viewing the latest track point for a flight and a new point is received the app will automatically update to focus on the most recently received point.
Added the ability to show the user’s location on the map, this feature is particularly useful for ground-based staff like engineers and ground support to identify where the aircraft is in relation to their position. Also included are a number of small Spidertxt changes that improve the overall quality of the feature.
Integration of Spidertxt into the Android app, you can send and receive messages to your team no matter where they are by using the Spider’s connection to the Iridium Satellite Network.
